Understanding Prostate Cancer Disparities
Addressing Global Cancer Inequities
Join us in our mission to bridge the gap in prostate cancer outcomes for Black men worldwide.
Global Outreach
We work across continents to address cancer disparities linked to historical injustices.
Research Initiatives
Our research focuses on increasing Black participation in cancer clinical trials.
The Prostate Cancer Transatlantic Consortium (CaPTC) is a pioneering collaborative effort established in 2005 to address the disproportionate burden of prostate cancer among Black men globally. The consortium comprises a multidisciplinary team of prostate cancer scientists, clinicians, survivors, and advocates from North America, Europe, the Caribbean Islands, and Africa.
CaPTC’s research goals are focused on several key but broad objectives, including:
Understanding Disparities
CaPTC aims to explore and quantify the magnitude of prostate cancer morbidity and mortality variance, as well as aggressiveness among Black men globally.
Genetic and Environmental Etiology
The consortium seeks to explore the genetic and environmental etiology of prostate cancer disparities through collaborative research and consortium science.
Social and Behavioral Research
CaPTC develops novel and culturally sensitive tools for studying the social and behavioral determinants of prostate cancer disparities among Black men globally. This involves investigating the impact of social determinants of health, as well as behavioral factors, on prostate cancer risk and outcomes.
Equipping Nextgen Stars
The topmost interest of CaPTC is to equip the next generation of underrepresented cancer researchers by providing them with mentorship, resources, network, and opportunities to contribute to cutting-edge research in prostate cancer and disparities.
Empowering and Fueling Inspiration
At CaPTC, we believe in the power of consortium science and the importance of a global perspective in tackling complex health issues like prostate cancer among Blacks. We do this by bringing together experts from diverse backgrounds and regions. CaPTC aims to drive meaningful advancements in prostate cancer research, treatment, and advocacy with the ultimate goals of reducing the burden, improving clinical outcomes, and, importantly, improving the quality of lives of those impacted by prostate cancer.
